Bread, Roses, and the Power of Film

I recently came across this film (made by Brum-based Vermillion) about Film Aid and their work with refugees at a camp in Kenya.

Film Aid gives people living in the camps important information and skills – yes.  But much more than that, the films they show bring relief, hope, and value to peoples’ lives.  Something that makes life worthwhile.  Not just bread – but roses too.

I don’t feel the worth of such a thing can be under-estimated.  I wonder often about Isabel Allende’s words:

“What kind of world do we want?  This is a fundamental question that most of us are asking.”

For me, the answer lies in film, music, photography, nature, stories, wonder, science.  A world where everyone has the luxury of exploring and enjoying all of these things and more.
